The HTML editor allows you to merge two table cells into one larger cell or split one cell into two smaller cells.
Note: These tools are not available in text areas with a reduced HTML editor.
Split a Cell
- Place your cursor in the cell you wish to split.
- Right-click (Windows) or Control+click (Macintosh) to open the table context menu.

Select Cell, then Split Cell Horizontally. A blank cell will be inserted to the right of the target cell.
Select Cell, then Cell Properties in the table context menu.

Note: You can also select Split Cell Vertically to insert a blank cell below the target cell.
Merge Cells
Firefox
- Highlight two or more adjacent cells in the same row or column.
- Right-click (Windows) or Control+click (Macintosh) to open the table context menu.

Select Cell, then Merge Cells. The cells will be consolidated into one larger cell with the text of both.

Internet Explorer

Insert and Delete Cells
The Insert Cell Before, Insert Cell After, and Delete Cells options in the table context menu allow you to insert a single cell at the end of a row or delete one cell leaving a blank space at the end of the row.
Note: This option is not recommended due to potential problems in the code for browser display. It is recommended you highlight and delete cell contents instead.
